In the below code, we have placed a Button Field with Command Name="Add Account" after the The Button Field element displays buttons in a row in the Details View control.

When a user clicks on a button in the details View control, the control raises the Item Command event.

To make normal buttons perform like Command Field buttons, we set the button command Name property to Predefined commands like Edit or Delete or Insert.

For example, to make a normal button perform an edit operation, we set command Name property of the button to "Edit" as shown below.

A Command Field element is used when we need to display standard buttons whereas Button Field element is used to display a data item as a button.

Both the Command Field element and Button Field elements cause postback to the server and inform the Details View control to do specific commands.
